Samantha Downing’s psychological thriller, A Twisted Love Story tells the story of Wes and Ivy, a young couple who are deeply in love but secretly conceal a sinister secret.
Exploring the themes of obsession, deception, and betrayal, the book is fast-paced, thrilling, and engrossing.
I enjoyed this book, a compelling and sinister narrative of murder and love. I was invested from start to finish as I followed Wes and Ivy’s friendship on an emotional roller coaster. They’re an ideal combination, but they’re also an ideal mess. They are deeply in love, yet their relationship is toxic and destructive as well. Not only can they not survive apart, but they also cannot coexist.
Additionally, they possess a dangerous secret that has the power to either unite or divide them.
The narrative of the novel alternates between the past and the present and is written from the viewpoints of Wes and Ivy.
The author does a fantastic job of developing flawed, multifaceted characters that, depending on the circumstances, can be liked or disliked. Wes and Ivy are not your standard protagonists; at times, they act in a way that is both morally dubious and outright nasty. Even when they commit horrible acts, you can’t help but feel bad for them since they are still weak and human.
There are a lot of surprises and revelations throughout the novel that will have you wondering until the very end – having found out that there was a murder in the mix, I mistrusted almost every single character in the book.
The author cleverly manipulates the reader’s expectations and preconceptions while revealing startling revelations and surprises. In addition to being an exciting mystery, the novel delves into the psychology of dysfunctional relationships and the transformative power of love. It demonstrates the extremes people will go to in order to pursue love and how it can be both a blessing and a curse.
I would recommend Samantha Downing’s A Twisted Love Story to anybody who enjoys dark romances and psychological thrillers.
