About the book
(blurb from Pan MacMillan SA)
With found family, a dash of romance and an uplifting message about self-love, Rewitched is a cosy autumnal fantasy that will leave readers spellbound.
Belladonna Blackthorn hasn’t lost her magical spark, but she hasn’t seen it in a while either. Balancing work at her beloved London bookshop, Lunar Books, with handling her toxic boss and concealing her witchcraft from those around her – Belle is burnt out. Perfecting the potential of her magic is the last thing on her mind.
But, when her thirtieth birthday brings a summons from her coven and a trial that tests her worthiness as a witch, Belle risks losing her magic for ever. With the month of October to fix things and signs that dark forces may be working against her, Belle will need all the help she can get – from the women in her life, from an unlikely mentor figure and even from an (infuriating) coven watchman who’s sworn to protect her . . .
Can Belle reignite her spark before it’s too late?

My thoughts
“Fate can’t be twisted and turned as you like. What’s meant for you is meant, no matter which turn you take or hurdle you stumble at, you’ll always end up on the path that’s meant for you.”
“Rewitched” by Lucy Jane Wood is a charming, witchy, and cosy debut novel. The story follows Belle, a thirty-year-old woman still figuring out her life. As she navigates the complexities of growing up, finding herself, and discovering her path, Belle encounters a quirky cast of characters, including the eccentric Gowden sisters and the lovable Artorius. The novel is light-hearted and whimsical, with elements of magic and enchantment adding an extra layer of tension to the plot.
“The pages provide the most golden company when one feels the pestering tap of loneliness.”
The novel explores several themes, including:
• Self-discovery: Belle’s journey of self-love and self-confidence is central to the story as she learns to embrace change and grow as a person.
• Friendship and connection: The value of friendship and the importance of finding one’s people are highlighted throughout the book.
• Love in various forms: While romance is present, the author delves into other forms of love, such as friendship and self-love.
“She had found true magic and would hold onto it tightly with both hands.”
What I enjoyed most:
• Relatable Protagonist: Belle, being thirty and still figuring out her life, is a refreshing change from the usual young protagonists in similar genres.
• Quirky Characters: The over-the-top characters, like the Gowden sisters, add a unique and enjoyable touch to the story.
• Engaging Romance: The romance in the book is enjoyable, particularly because the love interest is not the typical uber-male fantasy character. The exploration of other forms of love adds depth to the story.
• Fun Dialogue: The dialogue is witty and fun, making the interactions between characters entertaining.
• Magical Elements: The magic trails and other enchanting elements add tension and whimsy to the story, enhancing the reading experience.
“The library, of course. Anything of importance is always in the library, dear.”
What could have been better, in my humble opinion:
• Slow Start: It took me a while to get into the book.
• Plot Holes: There are some plot holes and a lot of coincidences, but they don’t detract too much from the overall enjoyment of the story.
• Character Development: While Belle’s growth is commendable, her initial behaviour irriated me a little. However, her journey of self-love and self-confidence made up for it.

“Rewitched” by Lucy Jane Wood is a delightful debut novel that offers a whimsical and enchanting escape. Despite a few minor flaws, the book’s charming characters, engaging themes, and magical elements make it a worthwhile read. It’s an ideal palate cleanser for those looking for a sweet and cute story that explores the importance of self-love, friendship, and personal growth.
