Viv’s Coffee Shop Comes Alive: Legends and Lattes, The Graphic Novel by Travis Baldree

A gentle, heartwarming adaptation filled with colour, charm and found family.

I have such a soft spot for cosy fantasy, so stepping into the graphic novel version of Legends and Lattes felt like settling into a warm café with a mug of something sweet. Viv’s story has always been about choosing a gentler life and this adaptation captures that feeling beautifully. It is a full-colour comfort read that brings the world of Thune to life in a way that feels both inviting and expressive.

Legends & Lattes: The Graphic Novel Samuel Sattin (Adapter) , Travis Baldree , Shanti Rittgers (Illustrator) , Sarah Webb (Illustrator)The premise is simple and charming. Viv is an orc who decides she has had enough of mercenary work. She arrives in a new town with a dream of opening a coffee shop even though no one there has ever tasted coffee. With help from Cal, Tandri and the ever-delightful Thimble, she builds a space filled with warmth, pastries and community. The tension is light and friendly. There are small challenges, a few unexpected visitors and the question of whether her new venture will succeed.

What worked especially well for me was the artwork. The illustrations are rich, cosy and full of personality. The characters are lively and expressive. The interiors of the cafes are washed in soft color and the food looks delicious. The visual storytelling gives a certain level of charm to Viv’s journey and makes the world feel lived in. I also liked how the fantasy elements are woven into everyday life.

The pace is leisurely and easy to follow. The story maintains a consistent beat that fits the tone. This is the kind of book you read in one sitting and feel genuinely uplifted after. It’s friendships and the sense of building something worthwhile that creates the emotional pull. It is a story about choosing comfort, choosing kindness and choosing a place to belong.

Readers who enjoy cosy fantasy, found family stories or low-stakes adventures will love this. It is also perfect for anyone who prefers visual storytelling or wants an accessible entry point into the Legends and Lattes world.

This graphic novel is warm, expressive and full of heart. It honours the original story while giving it a fresh, glowing visual style. I closed it feeling lighter and happier, and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who needs a gentle escape.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, illustrators, and Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press for the opportunity to read this gorgeous eARC.
