About the book
(blurb from NB Publishers)
In 2019, Eva Mazza’s Sex, Lies & Stellenbosch took the SA publishing world by storm. The sizzling novel, centered around the seemingly upstanding lives of Stellenbosch’s elite, has remained in the Top 100 since publication.
Now Sex, Lies Declassified, the much-anticipated sequel, is about to land and whet the appetites of thousands of readers obsessed with what happens next in the steamy lives of the winelands aristocracy.
My thoughts
Well, if I described the first book in this sassy trilogy, “Sex, Lies & Stellenbosch”, as “The Real Housewives of Stellenbosch,” then “Sex, Lies Declassified” just upped the ante to full-blown soapie territory.
Once again, we are transported back to the glamour and turbulations of the Winelands, and the scandals and betrayals keep coming.
The family drama continues, and, in this book, almost everyone’s personal relationships are put to the test. The story continues where the previous book left of, and although in the beginning it feels like a bit of a fluffy chick-lit read (there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, I must say), it becomes quite a bit more intense and tense as you keep turning the pages. And sometimes you can’t turn it fast enough! Eventful, short chapters make this such an entertaining read.
As with the first book, the author deals with current socio-political topics, specifically sexual abuse, human trafficking, racism, sexism, corrupt business practices, and vigilante justice.
I enjoyed the fact that Pete and Patty got a bit more attention as well; their characters are more visible and developed. And Gladys!!
I may have missed it the first time around, but the race of some of the key players is prominently mentioned in this book, which I found quite interesting.
I read somewhere that to mention in a review that there is a plot twist can be seen as a spoiler, so I will not mention it then! wink One word though: cliffhanger!
The next and final installment of this saucy saga, “Sex, Lies & Alibis” is waiting for me, and I hope to be able to dig into it soon!
With thanks to NB Publisher’s / Melinda Ferguson Publishers for the opportunity to read this book.
