In Joe’s own words:  “Food really does have the power to change our mood for the better.  I believe this is more important now than ever”.  This book is filled with healthy and hearty recipes.  What I like most is that, unlike some ‘healthy eating’ recipe books out there, Joe makes the dishes and recipes easy accessible for the man on the street.  There are very few ‘special’ ingredients, like those that we are peppered with when we are told that we should change our diets.  Most ingredients are affordable and available at your nearest grocery chain-store.  And if there are more specialised ingredients used, he usually recommend a more easily-obtained substitute.  I think this is what puts most people off ‘healthy’ eating – the idea that it is expensive, only for those with guy memberships and complicated.  Joe shows us how we can still make good food with what is already in our fridges and pantries, home cooking is king.  I love that about this book!

In the “Introduction” he shares his building blocks for ‘feel good eating’, discuss the link between food and mood, guidance on healthy eating, etc.  We all think we know it all, but to see it shared in such a simply and fuss-free manner is great!

The recipe sections include:  “Start Right”, “Snack Simple”, “Small but Satisfying”, “Comfort”, “Speedy”, “Hearty”, “Crowd-Pleasers” and “Sweet Treats”.  Each recipe is beautifully photographed and the majority contains a “Feel Good Fact”, variation’s or an additonal tip from Joe.

We have tried the Roasted Gnocchi with Meatballs, Peppers and Sage and it already is a family favourite!  Most of the dishes will make quick and effortless mid-week meals or snacks, so there are so many more I’d like to try.

“Feel Good Food” instantly became one of my favourite recipe books, and if you want to treat yourself – of gift it to a friend or family member – you will not be disappointed!

“Feel Good Food” is published locally (South Africa) by Jonathan Ball Publishers and is available at most major book sellers.
